Chevrolet saw record car sales in their 3 year run of 55, 56, and 57 with the most popular year being 1957. Three distinctly different models were offered this year: the One Fifty Series 1500, the Two Ten Series 2100 and the top of the line Bel Air Series 2400C. Some minor stylistic changes would be created and a wide variety of models and options would become available. These changes included a new oval shaped front bumper/grille combination with torpedo style bumper guards. This new front end was highlighted with the famous Chevrolet bowtie being placed in the center of the grille with a horizontal bar. The hood would have parallel bulges with bullet shaped ornaments. New side moldings were introduced in 1957 and were distinctly different with each series in 1957 – being more elaborate on the Bel Air than the One Fifty. One of the notable new features for the 1957 models was the rear fenders which were reshaped to incorporate broad, flat tailfins.

The top of the line model was the Bel Air, or series 2400C. The side trim was upgraded from the lower priced models by the use of a silver anodized aluminum beauty panels. Other trim additions unique to the Bel Air was the stainless steel Chevron ornaments on each front fender plated in anodized gold to match the grille insert, V-8 ornaments, and the Bel Air beauty panel script. What made the Bel Air series even more popular was the long list of performance options available. These options include six different engine options which started with the stock 283 cubic inch engine rated at 185 horsepower, to a variety of carburetor and fuel injection options as well as higher compression cylinder heads which could boost the engine’s output to 283 horsepower. Over fifty factory options were available ranging from heavier duty suspension springs to extra trim moldings.

This 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible is fitted with the extremely rare high performance 283 engine but modified with two, four barrel carburetors and high compression heads. This combination boosts the horsepower to 245, which is the same provided by the fuel injection option also offered in this model year. This engine option was the same engine that was also supplied in the Corvettes built during 1957. The desirability of this vehicle is further enhanced by the addition of an automatic transmission, heater, radio, power brakes, spinner hubcaps, white wall tires, dual exhaust, and deluxe two tone interior.
