After purchasing Lincoln from it’s founder Henry Leland in 1922, Henry Ford handed over design duties to his only son, Edsel. Edsel Ford immediately began redesigning the Lincoln and sales began to improve. By the mid-1920s, Lincolns were becoming some of the most stylized luxury vehicles on the market and were featuring bodies that were designed and built by some of the leading custom coachbuilders of America and Europe. Among these coachbuilders were Judkins, Brewster, Willoughby and LeBaron. LeBaron would become the most prolific coachbuilder to dress the Lincoln chassis with a variety of formal and sporty body designs.

The year 1935 saw 1411 Model K Lincolns being built and sold. While not a high number as compared to previous years, it was still considered respectable considering the Great Depression was dramatically reducing the amount of luxury cars sold in America. The Lincolns for 1935 featured a more rounded overall design and softer appearance. A sloping rear deck was incorporated into most of the designs and a new wire mesh front grill was added. This was the first year that the radiator cap was mounted inside the engine compartment and the famous Lincoln Greyhound mascot was now permanently affixed. The aerodynamic design influence so popular during this period, was accentuated on the 1935 models by the use of one piece bumpers with twin vertical bars, the horizontal hood ventilators were elongated and extended into the cowling. The radiator grille was now painted the same color as the body. The interior was redesigned to be simpler in appearance by using two large gauges and an enlarged glove box.

This 1935 Model K coupe was designed and built by LeBaron and given a model designation number of 548. Only 23 of the two passenger coupes were built during 1935 and sold for $4,600.00-nearly ten times the price of a new Ford V-8 coupe. The LeBaron coupe for 1935 was a dramatic new design featuring three single side windows, a raked windshield and a padded top.

The vehicle is fitted with many factory accessories including twin side mounted spare tires with metal covers and mirrors, rear trunk rack, and white wall tires. It still retains its original Greyhound mascot and cloisonné radiator badge and has been appropriately fitted with original 1935 Michigan license plates.
